Apple had its event and yet again the entire social media and the internet is filled with people either smashing the new iOS, or proudly worshipping the company’s latest operation system. it was right then when this thought strike me, that ever since I’ve owned an iPhone, I never looked forward for an iOS upgrade.
But why is that?
Since faith and destiny got me into computers and tech, I was always excited about new Software Updates. Especially when it was an OS update, I remember it very well how passsionate I was to try the new version of Windows on my computer back then, acompanied with a wishful hope for new features, better performance and more.
This was the same case for Android, I remember how I was counting down days to install the latest version of Android on my phone, looking forward for additional features and optimizations.
But when I got my first iPhone (the current iPhone 13 Pro that I’m still using), this has changed quickly. Just after few iOS updates cycle.
The shift from Android to iPhone was a long transition, I remember how pissed I used to get at apple when after learning that most of the Android features which I was taking them for granted were missing from the iPhone. I can sit down and nag at how stupid it is that you can’t use a custom ringtone for your Alarm Clock, or the fact of not being able to delete multiple people from your contacts list. But none of these is what actually matters.
So after giving it a moment of thoughts, I came with the following:
iOS changes are minimal
Yes Apple ships tones of new changes with every iOS update, they brag about it quite a lot in their event, but in my opinion over the past years the features that were included in every version of iOS were less likely to sound exciting to me. Yes you may have added a bunch of emoji features, or a Freeform or some kinda of app like that, but that was not something I’d look forward to. I’m not saying that there were no new features added to new versions of MacOS or iOS that I admire, but seriously over the past couple of years since I’ve had my iPhone the experience was pretty much the same.
Apples updates are not always stable
Don’t get me wrong, my iPhone was one of the most stable phones I’ve ever owned, until its not. the problem with iPhone is that an iOS update can potentially introduce bugs, which the irretating part is, when you head over to the internet and try to look for people who are experiencing the same bug, you’d end up in some discussions in Apple’s forum and face zero acknowledgment from Apple.
It seems acknowledging mess ups is not at all in Apple’s culture.
So now that this new iOS 26 is out, I’m not that excited about trying it, liquid glass is not something I’m looking forward to. of course I’m a little happy about finally getting a call screening feature, but honestly, that is does not sound WOW at all in my mind.
